People say they want to succeed. I do too. But sometimes I wonder if we use the word \u201csucceed\u201d to avoid asking a harder question: What are we willing to fail at?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
You can fail at something and still be moving forward. You can send the message and get no reply. You can build something people don\u2019t buy. You can put an idea into the world and watch it come back quieter than you hoped. That feels like failure. It may also be the first honest answer you\u2019ve received.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The strange part is that we often call an attempt a failure before we know what it taught us. Then we call waiting \u201cbeing realistic.\u201d We call staying comfortable \u201cbeing careful.\u201d Sometimes those words are true. Sometimes they\u2019re just nicer ways of saying, \u201cI don\u2019t want to find out.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I\u2019m not saying every failure is secretly a win. Some things don\u2019t work. Some plans cost too much, and some doors should stay closed. There\u2019s a difference between learning from a loss and dressing it up so it doesn\u2019t hurt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Maybe the point is to fail with your eyes open: notice what happened, keep what\u2019s useful, and let go of what isn\u2019t yours to carry. Then decide whether the next attempt deserves you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSucceed at failing\u201d sounds backwards. Maybe that\u2019s why it makes me stop for a second. Success might not mean avoiding the fall. It might mean becoming someone who can look at the fall without turning away and still choose what to do next.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Not every failure gets you closer. But if you refuse to look at it, how would you know?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
