The olden ways of business dictate that – you take all you can and give nothing back. That ethos is on its way out.
The new crop of companies begs to differ from such a mentality of “Take-all.” Starting a company/business is about giving back to society in a sustainable way which can make an even more significant impact on the world and the people that inhabit it.
Preceding companies conducted business in such a way which brought harm, poverty, inequality, and a colossal wealth gap, to our world. Their negativity penetrated the annals of commerce and society as a whole.
Budding entrepreneurs and enduring leaders have realized that you must give more than what you get in return. Wise people have said, “Giving is receiving.” There is a consensus on ethos.
Tech organizations, such as Techstars, Y-Combinator, and 500startups, have been long-time advocates of the “Give-first” phenomenon.
The latter tech and business organizations realized that their purpose is more than churning out cash flow and high profits for shareholders.
Their job is three-fold in that their business activity must yield – Financial, Planetary, and social benefits to customers and society at large. Companies like Warby Parker, and Lenskart, to name a few, have adopted the 3P business model: People, Planet, Profits.
Companies that have adopted this operating model have made a heart inside their customers, which has yielded higher profits for companies operating with such conviction.
